Research Design

Key topics

Urban modal shift

from individual traffic to more sustainable transport modes, and shorter distances a (yvp, ETH)

Urban climate adaptation

through urban greening, plant biomass enhancement, increased canopy cover, sustainable urban retention, drainage, infiltration and evaporation systems (NBS) (TUW, ETH)

Urban ecological connectivity

enables the urban cohabitation of humans and animals
(TUM, TUW)

Urban soundscape

turns from traffic noise to more diverse environmental sounds (ETH)

Co-creation

Workpackages

────────────────

The integrated co-creative modeling process includes the determination of model requirements; data research, data acquisition and data adaptation; concept finding and determination of priorities; scenario development; modeling; and the respective integration of data of the three key topics considering the reciprocal effects and correlations

WP4 - General Requirements and Desired Futures,
WP5 - Data Research, Data Acquisition and Data Adaptation
WP6 - Modeling and Integration

────────────────

The findings will be transferred into concrete urban space by means of different urban case studies following the concept of an Urban Living Lab playing back experience into the modeling process. Various feedback loops involving researchers, administration, local initiatives and urban design students enable the understanding and awareness raising of the three key topics as well as their mutual influences, and the exchange of experiences and user needs for policy and decision making

WP2 - Living Lab Process

────────────────

Prerequisite for the transfer of findings into the Living Lab is their translation into comprehensible visualizations with correlating indicators

WP3 -Visualization, Transferability and Case Study Design

────────────────

Finally, guidelines for integrated model-based planning processes will be developed with the objective to merge the three key topics into a common framework giving support to policies and administration and to provide a sound basis for awareness raising, discussion and decisions

WP7 - Guidelines for Integrated Model-based Planning and Design Processes
