Zurich
Fully integrated case study
For the Zurich study area, a perimeter of approximately 4.5 × 5 km (approx. 457 ha) has been defined in the city of Zurich, covering the neighborhoods of Hard, Langstrasse, Werd, and Sihlfeld. These inner-city districts are characterised by a dense mix of residential, commercial, and transport infrastructure.
The area shows a high degree of sealing and long-standing transport corridors, leading to heat accumulation and limited green space. At the same time, initiatives such as the “Superblock” in Aussersihl reflect ongoing efforts to reallocate street space toward more sustainable and people-oriented uses.
Due to its central location and diverse urban fabric, the area provides strong potential for multi-scalar analysis and serves as a representative case for climate-sensitive urban transformation in dense European city contexts.
